I discovered your blog just as I was thinking of giving up on my desired career in book publishing. Then I looked through all of the links you've given of different publishing companies - big and small - and I asked all of them if I could participate in any work experience placements.I'm starting a two week placement with Legend Press on Monday.Thank you!The frequent posts about current opportunities for first jobs and internships are so useful, and often the sort of information that's difficult to find.Sam Rennie

I discovered your blog during the summer when I became truly fixed on gaining a career in publishing. I've been reading all your CV and Cover Letter tips. The tip about doing your research about the company is crucial. I have always been set on working at Random House publishing and am really pleased to say that I applied for a publicity work experience placement and got it!! Wouldn't have been able to do it without your tips as before I would not have had a clue how to approach the cover letter or CV. To have got work experience with such an established company for my first time proves that it is possible to gain experience and I am over joyed that I managed to get it.For those of you wanting to head in the same direction as me - don't give up and read all of Steff's CV and cover letter tips. They were brilliant, thank you so much! :)Sally
As you plan to keep your blog going through your entire working life, I'll bookmark it in stone! "I'll be back" - often, and link across to you from our Project House blog."Why?" you may ask. I typed into a few search engines "internship available children's book publishing" to try and discover where potential interns may be hanging out online. On arriving at your blog, I knew it was destined to be the hub of all such activities. And, as soon as our young publishing house has its 2013 intern position details ready, I'll give you the International scoop on it!GrantLittle People Books
We skipped 2013 as it would have been impossible to give Interns the time and attention required. However, applications for 2014 Interns at Little People Books open on March 3rd. Thought you should be the first to know.Have a great festive season.GrantLittle People Books

I have been subscribed to your blog for about a year now, and I'm just emailing to say thank you for all the information and advice you've given over that time. I emailed you once before asking for advice as I was an unemployed English graduate and was in desperate need of help. I'm very happy to announce that I have landed myself a graduate PA role to senior management at an awesome media company, and have just finished my first day! I think your blog has been an integral part of my success and motivation throughout this past year, and I hope that many more graduates will find it as helpful and insightful as I have.
This is a treasure trove of resources, information, tips, etc! It is full of excellent information to help anyone [even lil ol' me!] looking to get into publishing. The entries are really useful and inspiring. Every time I feel like giving up my dream in this industry, Diary of a Publishing Intern really helps to re-motivate me! Making it personal, Steff helps to give hope that through hard work, through all the competition, you can succeed in this field of work. I'm still looking to put my foot into the industry, but I know exactly where to go to if I need any advice/help Thank you, Steff! Keep up the good work!-iProngs
Steff's blog has guided me through the beginnings of my publishing career by advertising internships with reputable companies. After subscribing to her newsletters and following up the information she had given, I landed my first two internships! Yesterday, thinking it a long shot, I emailed Steff for some advice, thinking I wouldn't get a reply, as noone in this industry seems to want to talk to you. However, to my surprise she replied the same day giving me excellent pointers and some great detailed information, which has reassured me that I am now going in the right direction. Thanks so much for helping out struggling young people.
I've been following Steff's blog for the past few months, particularly looking at the internship and vacancy page which she updates every week. All the tips and advice were very helpful for a recent graduate desperate to start a career in publishing, but it was Steff's willingness to go even further that really makes this blog worthwhile.A few weeks ago I was asked in for an interview with HarperCollins. I decided to email Steff just in case she had any tips, and she got back to me with a very detailed, personal response which really gave me a lot to think about. I was called back for a final interview, and this morning I was offered the job!I can't stress enough how valuable this blog is for anyone with an interest in publishing. But it's really Steff's willingness to help and her friendliness that makes this blog stand out. Thank you so much; I appreciate everything you've done with this blog and helping to start my career in publishing!
Dear Steff, Just wanted to say a random hello and thank you. I started following your blog, site and fb in about December and found its regular updates and job postings so helpful - I now have my dream job at Penguin (project management) and it's just such an amazing company to work for. Without the ease of access, approachability and regularity of your website i don't think I'd have got to where I am, so thank you for your part in introducing me to a new world of happy employment. All the best, Hannah
I have just discovered your blog while searching for careers/internships in Publishing, and I am very grateful I found you. I am currently studying for a degree in English Language and Literature, but struggling to find a job in this industry. I will surely start following you, now, as I feel less disheartened. :)
Not only has Steff's blog been a great help to anybody who stumbles upon it like I did, but she herself has provided invaluable help personally to me. After struggling with my completed cover letter, I emailed Steff on the off-chance that she would be able to help. She replied with a detailed response, with excellent advice, offering further support to check over my cover letter again and again. I'm now starting an internship with Vintage Books as of Monday! To anybody interested in publishing, I would definitely recommend this blog. Steff's kindness and invaluable help have really made her blog stand out. To take her time out each week to inform and help readers just shows how lucky the publishing world are to have her!Thank you again so much, Steff!
Steff's blog has the most comprehensive and specific advice for aspiring publishing professionals I've ever seen in one place. Her tips have ensured I felt both prepared and confident in my professionalism when going into interviews as an undergrad.
I found Steff's blog only recently and have followed it religiously ever since. I have been trying, and failing, to get into publishing for a while and had given up on it altogether and made other plans. When these plans fell through I resolved to try again and decided to contact Steff to see if she would be free to meet up to discuss my situation.I didn't expect anything to come of the email but Steff agreed to meet up at the end of the week! She was extremely easy to talk to, gave me some excellent advice and was so thoughtful and friendly. Her help has been invaluable. It's comforting to have met someone that works so selflessly and I really do appreciate everything she has done.Thank you Steff! Without the accessibility of your blog and the information it provides I would have given up a long time ago.
